Position: YWCA Greater Memphis LAP Crisis Advocate (24/7 Response Line )

JOB DESCRIPTION: The LAP Crisis Advocate provides immediate, trauma-informed support to “high-danger” victims of intimate partner violence identified through LAP screenings conducted by law enforcement. LAP Crisis Advocate responds via hotline, provides safety planning, and initiates follow-up services to ensure ongoing safety and connection to critical resources.
Reporting Structure:
The LAP Crisis Advocate will report directly to the LAP Program Director and work collaboratively with the Memphis Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and
other community partners involved in the Lethality Assessment Program (LAP).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Respond to LAP hotline calls from law enforcement 24/7 on a rotating schedule.
Conduct risk assessments and create individualized safety plans for victims identified as “high-danger.”
Provide immediate referrals for shelter, legal advocacy, counseling, and relocation assistance.
Document all LAP calls and services in compliance with grant and confidentiality standards.
Coordinate with law enforcement officers to ensure timely and effective victim response and
follow-up.
Maintain regular communication with the LAP Program Director to report trends, barriers, and
urgent concerns.
Participate in ongoing training on trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and domestic
violence response protocols.
Support victims through safety planning, emotional support, and connection to YWCA and
community-based services.
Assist with data entry, case management, and reporting requirements related to LAP outcomes.
• Collaborate with other staff and community partners to promote coordinated, victim-centered
service delivery.
Uphold strict confidentiality and ethical standards in all victim interactions and documentation.
Contribute to community outreach and education efforts designed to increase awareness of LAP
and available victim resources.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred;
relevant experience may be substituted.
Minimum of two years of experience in crisis response, domestic violence advocacy, or social
services.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, victim safety planning, and crisis de-escalation
techniques.
Ability to work independently, manage rotating shifts, and respond calmly under pressure.
Excellent verbal communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in documentation and data entry systems.
Must maintain confidentiality and sensitivity when working with victims and law enforcement
partners.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Documents interactions with residents for file
Compile information and data to ensure proper reporting
Supports the mission of the DV Shelter and the mission of the YWCA Greater Memphis.
Performs other related duties as deemed necessary or as delegated by the Shelter Coordinator
Assist with transportation of client, services, and goods.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or other related fields with one (1) year of case management experience or five (5) years of experience working in the domestic violence field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of domestic violence and needs of victims of domestic violence
Knowledge of community agencies and resources
Strong listening and reflective response skills, oral and written communication skills, case management skills, and computer or word processing skills
Must have a valid driver’s license
Excellent communication skills
Able to walk up a flight of stairs
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid Tennessee Driver’s License
Must be a U.S. citizen or a permit to work in the U.S.
Must be able to pass a background check and submit to drug testing if requested
